On July 13, the Eletrobras Privatization Law was published. Law 14.182/2021 establishes the increase of the company's capital stock through the public subscription of common shares. The Federal Government will waive the right to subscribe for new shares, so that it will lose control of the company.

The recently published law is the result of the conversion of Provisional Measure 1.031/2021. The text had been approved by Congress on June 21, after a long legislative discussion that included provisions not related to the main object of the original text. The presidential vetoes corrected some excesses, but they still have to be validated by Congress.
